When they married at age 18 nearly five decades ago, Benny and Sheree Phillips could not have anticipated what was in store for them. Watching her older brother become a quadriplegic after a horrific diving accident. Infertility. The loss of Sheree’s father, brother and grandmother in just over a year. Betrayals of close friends and ministry partners. Walking through marital heartaches with some of their children. Their suffering led to pursuing help through professional counseling, which put them onto a path of growth and hope. The tools they have received are now bringing that same hope and progress to individuals, couples and churches.
Through it all they have served in pastoral ministry for nearly all of their nearly 50 years of marriage. This allowed them to walk alongside and mentor many hurting people, and to help build a culture of mercy and care in the churches they have served. They have also welcomed 18 grandchildren, with two diagnosed on the autism spectrum. Additionally, Sheree has earned advanced certification from the Christian Counseling and Educational Foundation where she has been trained in counseling skills and practice; counseling problems and procedures; the process of biblical change; and an approach to suffering people that is compassionately and skillfully influenced by their own journey of great joys mixed with deep sorrows. They are also able to make keen connections to the hope that comes only from the Scriptures, and the Savior who came to redeem and restore the broken.
Benny and Sheree’s grasp of Scripture, along with their personal experiences with the stark reality of pain and suffering, are unlike any combination I’ve heard or experienced. My life has been forever marked by their care and counsel.”
